Introduction

The Department of Parks & Recreation's First Tee program is looking for helpwith the coordination ofour golf programs at all Prince William County Golf Courses. The First Tee teaches young people life skills and character education through the game of golf. What makes The First Tee effective in building positive character traits in young people is The First Tee Life Skills Experience. This curriculum teaches our youth how to better deal with the challenges of growing up today by using the game of golf to keep it fun and relevant.

Preferred Skills: Golf knowledge is helpful but not required. Must enjoy working with kids and being a role model by example. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet most of the day.

The Department of Parks & Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older.

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Work is performed under close supervision with specific instructions provided as to the duties to be completed, the order of completion and method of completion. May perform duties as an aquatics attendant, park attendant, food runner, party leader, special events leader or sitter service attendant.



TYPICAL TASKS:

Assists in carrying out program plans and activities;

Monitors the activities, safety and security of the customers;

Sets up equipment or materials needed for an activity and cleans up after program;

Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public;

Keeps supplies and equipment neat and organized;

May collect and file paperwork;

Performs related work as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to effectively communicate with staff, parents, children and emergency personnel; knowledge of a variety of supplies, materials, tools, equipment and practices appropriate to job assignment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience with children preferred. Some positions may require CPR and First Aid certifications. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls;

Must have the physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine;

Moderate climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motions.
