Summary: The Director, Retail has the overall responsibility for the retail operation of the NHL Seattle business. Responsibilities fall into three categories: 1. Develop departmental strategic plans including tactical and operational plans for achieving targeted levels of revenue, 2. Direct and oversee buying and merchandising, and 3. Ensure all operational aspects are in place to support sales and service objectives. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned as required) BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, present and implement an annual retail business plan, including merchandise and marketing strategies, as well as detailed financial budgets for NHL games, events and non-event day business Execute retail marketing and advertising campaign Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reviews and forecasts Develop, manage and control the sales and expense budgets and forecasts Maximize sales by identifying issues and opportunities in profit margin analysis Work closely with executive and ownership on initiatives that significantly affect the budget of strategic objectives of the organization Serve as a committed and responsible member of the senior management team MERCHANDISING RESPONSIBILITIES Understand sports marketing and consumer trends specific to the NHL Develop team-specific branded product Develop a best in class focus for the Company Inspire the sales and service team in the development of a sound vision, strategy and plan with a goal to continuously improve the customer experience Direct the timely introduction of new products Ensure the retail pricing strategy is achieving its objectives and accomplishing target margins Oversee the creative promotion and maintenance of stock levels Provide advice on design and availability of merchandise requested by corporate and sponsorship departments Manage an open-to-buy budget considering sales, stock levels and product turnover Implement and carry out vendor Coop Rebate program Investigate new opportunities for database collectors and customer profile and execute in-store OPERATING RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee and manage all aspects of the retail sales department, including planning, staffing and merchandising In conjunction with the Retail Operations Manager, motivate, lead and develop the sales and service team Work with Retail Operations Manager to identify opportunities for sales and business improvements Prepare and implement a staff development plan and foster a high performance team Oversee store and kiosk layouts, promotions and displays Maintain inventory levels at an acceptable level to maximize sales Price merchandise to achieve planned margins Monitor item sales and issue timely markdowns to move slow selling merchandise Research and pursue third party options Implement and facilitate any new off-site retail opportunities Establish and execute any online opportunities EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive sports merchandise buying and marketing knowledge Minimum of five years retail management experience at a Director level, preferably with an arena or stadium retail operation Knowledge of the NHL game (including top teams, players, jargon) Familiarity and previous experience in dealing with National Hockey League (NHL) licensed product University degree, with a specialization in business administration or marketing an asset Superior communication, presentation and interpersonal skills Excellent planning, organizational and problem solving skills Ability to supervise, develop and inspire staff Ability to handle conflicting deadlines and prioritize Results oriented
